IT consulting as a category had a strong association with IT as a reactive function. Whenever most people think of IT, they think about technicians installing software or troubleshooting issues with their internet connection or computers. The challenge was to help Dthree escape this perception.

INSIGHT

Our research revealed that the reason most MSP were treated like technicians was because of how they set up their engagements and communicated with clients. They focused on the technology, never addressing clients’ business objectives and challenges. As a result, they were never having those business conversations or viewed and treated as strategists.

SOLUTION

We updated the brand platform and language at Dthree to position them as business consultants who simply leverage technology to assist companies in the creation of value and new opportunities. We positioned them closer to fractional CIO or CTO and not like MSPs. Our research also revealed a strong focus at Dthree on risk management. Our work focused on updating the brand to reposition the entire business and move it up the value ladder: from technician to strategists and business consultants.

Fundamentally, the purpose of a business is to create value, for its employees, customers, and society at large. And while those who manage to create said value are rewarded for their unique contributions, many fail in the attempt. In fact, on average, 50% of all businesses fail within the first five years. To say that starting a business is a risky venture is an understatement. Not only is the outcome very uncertain, but the road to success is often littered with obstacles and challenges that constantly threaten the survival of the business. Those who ultimately choose this tumultuous path must have a different perspective of the risk. While most see danger, they must see opportunity. They must recognize that, as Peter Drucker once said, all profits come from risk. And it’s therefore not something to eliminate because it’s the very path to success. As the saying goes, the road to success is paved with risk. But at Dthree we only partially agree with that statement. We believe that the road to success isn’t so much paved with risk, as it is with risk management. Entrepreneurs must effectively manage uncertainty and threats to fulfill the realization of their vision. And we want to support them in their entrepreneurial journeys. Our mission is to help SMBs manage risk and effectively use technology to maximize opportunities.
